Japanese School Bags

Japanese School Bags?
I've been trying to find a site or someplace I can purchase a authentic Japanese school bag/brief case. You see them alot in anime or in general japan school pictures. Usually they are black or brown leather bags (looks alot like a laptop bag), that have a handle on top and can be converted to a backpack style for carry on your back. I can't find anywhere that sells them, that will ship to the USA, where the goods are actually authentic. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Dzero I've already searched the internet for bags, none of the places I've found ship to the USA. eBay, doesn't seem to turn anything up either.

Drunken fist is a chinese style of kung fu. More aptly today, it is a form in the wushu curriculum. However, I doubt you will find an abundance of schools in Japan. That doesn't mean that you won't, however, as it is a Chinese are and not Japanese, you may not find one very easily.

can a english speaking child immigrate to japan and learn japanese for free in a public school

can a english speaking child immigrate to japan and learn japanese for free in a public school?
this question is for a research paper i am doing. i want to know if an english speaking child can go to a public school and learn japanese for free, as part of his/her curriculum? or do they practice total immersion where it is up to the parents and dedication of the child to learn japanese so they can be a productive part of society.

Japanese schools now are teaching more and more English to Japanese children at school. But I would say it is not likely for school to offer Japanese education to English speaking children. As long as the child is a legal resident of Japan, he/she can go to public school and take all the classes, and Japanese IS one of the requirements all the children have to take. But it is not likely for the child to be able to keep up with any of the classes without knowing any Japanese Or it's not like for schools to offer any kind of tutoring or slow down classes for him/her. If the child is young, he/she will pick up Japanese quickly and will be able to keep up with classes eventually with his/her natural ability. But if he/she are a little older and need to learn all the classes fairy soon, then it's parents or the child responsibility to find tutor or private language school to study Japanese on his/her own.

In order to teach English in Japan, you need at least a bachelors degree. Once you graduate college, I suggest looking into to something called the JET program. You can get information on it from any Japanese consulate.
2 :
It will also be nessicary to speak quite good Japanese, otherwise you can't let people translate something from JA-EN and EN-JA.

You can take a CELTA course in Tokyo offered through the British council. The CELTA is the most internationally recognized ESL certification and is awarded by Cambridge University. The downside is that it is very expensive 420,000 yen, and it is only offered a couple times a year. http://www.britishcouncil.org/japan-english-teach-course-registration.htm Though, if you have a degree, that is usually all that is required to get a job teaching English in Japan.

Of course they do! Many high school students here go to cram school after regular school to have all the facts necessary to pass their college entrance exams forced into their heads. They have to take tests to enter prestigious junior high and high schools that lead up to good universities. If you need a lot of sleep or if you suck at memorizing things, you will have a problem here. I don't think most teachers make life difficult here, it's the other students. They always travel in packs and try to intimidate anyone who is different or a loner. They also hit and kick each other, destroy personal property, and snatch stuff from other students' bags and nothing is done about it. The teachers just try to get through each day and count the days to retirement.

There are well over 5,000 high schools in Japan, so it's a little hard to give you a comprehensive list. I assume you understand Japanese well, since high schools in Japan teach in Japanese. In that case, you can google with the word 高等学校 + name of the city/prefecture of your choice. You also need someone in Japan who can act as your guardian.
2 :
Here's a list of international schools because it's the only option for you: http://www.realestate-tokyo.com/info/school/ http://www.tokyowithkids.com/fyi/international_schools.html#tokyo_preschool2 http://www.weekender.co.jp/new/education/intl-schools-K-12.html They all cost about 1,500,000 yen to 2,200,000 yen (16,000 dollars to 23,000 dollars) per year and usually have an April to April academic year, which might be out to sync with your school. Plus you've got to feed and accommodate yourself for a year with someone that can be legally called a guardian.

What are some after school jobs for a 16 year old in Tokyo, Japan?
With a decent wage, enough to pay high school tuition. Its for a writing essay. Thank you. I've chosen a shop assistant/clerk at a florist shop, knowing that the part time wages are between 600Y to 973Y. Its safe to say that even on a 650Y wage, that it should be okay. I want to make it unconventional, thinking outside the box is always fun :)

Private high school tuition is so high that you can't pay it by doing normal jobs for 16 year olds. The only job could be showbiz or something. It's possible to pay public high school tuition which is about $1500 per year. But many schools are not allowing its students to work. Usually, they work at hamburger shops like McDonands or convenience stores like Seven Eleven.
2 :
Yeah, as long as your character is going to a public school. A private school, no. But I don't know of any high school students working to pay their way through high school, so the story may be a bit unrealistic.

school trips in Japan

school trips in Japan?
If the equivalent of 7th graders go on camping trips and 8th graders go on beach trips, do 10th graders (koukou first year, i think) go on any end of year trips AND/OR field trips?

1 :
Yes, they do. But it's not like 7th graders go to camping trips or 8th graders on beach. It depends on each school where to go, not depends on grade.
2 :
Annual official field trip is very popular in Japanese schools. Junior High 1st grade to 3rd grade there may go camping at beach or forest, social study tour for different cities(Kyoto or Nara or Tokyo etc.)/country(Korea or China etc.) and TDL maybe. It depends. It is not scheduled at the end of school year but usually in half-way of them. Some of them are day trip but mostly are two to three or more days group trip generally.
3 :
Yeah, they do go on school trips in the 10th grade. It depends on the school as to where they go; one school I visited, they went on a 2-day camping trip near the beginning of the school year (as sort of a bonding exercise). At a different school, they went on a day trip to a nearby water park in the summer.

no but you could look on line for ideas, Dog food aggression is one of those dog behavior problems that is difficult for us humans to fully understand. It just doesn't seem to make sense that your dog would consider you a threat to his/her food resource. I mean you gave him the food in the first place, and if you feed your dog's the same kinds of foods that I do, it's not all that appealing anyway!
2 :
Try calling your local dog control and asking them, they will know of a reputable one in your area. If not, you could also try some dog behaviour books to help you out.

Well, I lived in Japan for two years, and I learned Japanese language at a respected Japanese university, but in fact I found that practicing Japanese language with normal Japanese people in daily life situations is more helpful than language course it self. So, if you are going to stay for one year in Japan, it is good to take the language course and try to make Japanese friends so you can practice it. Beside the university; I tried the following school and they have good programs for teaching Japanese language to the foreigners: Trident language school: http://www.kawai-juku.ac.jp/j-lang/english/index.html good luck

what is school like in japan

what is school like in japan?
particularly for japanese girls...?
Japan - 2 Answers

I know a lot about Japan. I love it. School in Japan is way strict. Their summer breaks are shorter and they get homework during summers(a lot) School is a bit longer, and they have lots of festivals. There isn't much of a difference for girls then there is for boys. In Japan teachers are much more...involved with their students, their better teachers then the ones we have here in America by far. When the students are at school and outside of school the teachers are like their parents/guardians. Theres a lot of respect going on too. It would be trouble if you forgot to say "Teachers name-sensei" The kids there are also a lot more responsible too. In middle school they usually were sailor suit type uniforms with a skirt, short or long(for the girls). The Japanese students are VERY smart and study a lot! I'm not saying every single one of them are perfect students, there are a lot of delinquent type students and sometimes even school gangs. I think their schools are different in a lot of things but the same as our schools in things as well.
2 :
Japanese people have told me that school is mainly a formality and a place where you mostly take tests and that cram school is where you learn the most. It's also very competitive because you are required to take tests to get into certain schools even elementary and middle school levels require tests if you want to get into that school, generally. and No japanese aren't particularly smarter they just have to go through more rigorous trails than most schools outside of asia because of the competition to get accepted into the school of your choice. In addition to school and cram school students will often have at least one club that they participate it. The only difference between boys and girls in japanese schools that come to mind is if you go to a school that requires uniform (most do) you may be required to wear a skirt if your a girl. *also the remark that Japanese teachers are often more involved with their student is also mostly inaccurate. Japanese students usually rely on cram school and tutors for clarity and there has been a problem with teachers turning a blind eye when it comes to obvious bullying. (bullying does not happen all the time but it has been a constant issue, particularly intense bullying).* Also for each subject you will usually get a new teacher and the teachers normally come to your classroom. It is the students job to take care of the classroom and make it clean. Students usually have classroom chores that they rotate

Best Cell Phone for living in Japan

Best Cell Phone for living in Japan?
I am going to be going to school in Japan for the next 4 years but will be coming back in the summer and I need a phone that won't cost very much and will Work throughout Japan and The U.S. I was To get a plan through one of the Major U.S. providers but there cost looks rather high. So anyone with any suggestions that would be great.

How about if I tell you what we do?... I moved to Japan from the U.S. I had to discontinue service with my previous cellphone company because it doesn't work over here. It's possible to have a "world phone" but, in addition to paying the price of your phone plan in the U.S., you would also pay for those international calls (incoming and outgoing) by the minute. It's expensive. Don't even bother, alright?... If you simply "can't live" without a cellphone in the U.S., they have some decent pre-paid phones like T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile... You could buy one of those to use in the U.S. when you're not at school. I picked up a pre-paid cellphone at SoftBank and it worked awesome. I think you have to buy a refill card for it every couple of months... Which isn't very expensive at all. It's cheaper than the price of a cellphone plan... You can spend 300 yen (a little more than $3.00) a month to have unlimited e-mail to your phone. You also recieve free incoming phone calls from anywhere. Yes, anywhere... * You have to have at least "some" money on it, though. The cellphone I had in particular was 5,000 yen (roughly, $50.00) and it was nicer than some of the cellphones in the U.S. It had a 2 megapixel camera, a dictionary, an in-phone translator, a photo editor... SoftBank http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/ We use Skype on our computer for U.S. calls. You can make international calls and have a U.S. phone number. Which means that incoming and outgoing calls to the U.S. are local. How cool is that?... It's what alot of Americans do over here. Skype http://www.skype.com We use DoCoMo now. We don't have the pre-paid phones anymore (it's cheaper for us because we have multiple phones). You can pick up some free ones or pay just a little bit a month for the extent of your two-year contract, which is standard like in the U.S. ... DoCoMo http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/ Do some research but, don't ever trust a phone company. (I worked for one, I know.)

Why some schools in Japan let the kids where uniforms and some don't

Why some schools in Japan let the kids where uniforms and some don't?
Here in America is to difference the private schools from the public... But what is the reason in Japan for the divided idea of what kids should be wearing? I know the question sounds stupid but is just plain simple curiosity...sorry
Japan - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Most schools in Japan need to wear a uniform and the main reason that I saw is to keep the social classes the same. Most schools here are based upon your intelligence and not how much money you are paying for school.
2 :
Most kids who go to school in japan wear uniforms. The uniforms identifies which school the child goes to. So if they do any bad stuff out in public, a witness can instantly identify the student and where the school the kid is from...
3 :
One answer talk about being able to identify students through their uniform if they did something bad, but actually that is only a part of it. The uniform is the source of pride for the schools. School administrators want their students to be proud to wear the school uniforms and be associated with the school. They also want their students to have a sense of belonging, and inclusion. It sort of works for the high level schools, but it works in reverse for students of the lower end schools. You are right. Japan has become divided as to whether or not to keep uniforms or allow students to wear their own clothes. So many issues surround that idea it is not even funny. Money, identity, bullying, self-expression, Independence, to name just a few. But for now, uniforms are old school and people with the old school up bringing are in power. So nothing will change for some time. So, to answer your question directly. It all depends on who is running the school. If the board of trustees is progressive, they will not require uniforms. If they are old school, which most of them are, they will require uniforms. It seems very hit and miss, but the government doesn't want to get into the issue of legislating fashion. That would just open a whole other can of worms. Here is a clip from Wikipedia about school uniforms: Japan introduced Western-style school uniforms in the late 19th century as a part of its modernization program. Today, school uniforms are almost universal in the public and private school systems. They are also used in some women's colleges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_school_uniforms

I was a Rotary Exchange student in HS. See if they offer a Japan option. All you have to do is fill out the application, do an interview and pay for your plane ticket.
2 :
She could talk to her school administrators about being a foreign exchange student, but she will still have to complete her highschool requirements in the US. That means she will have to double up on courses to complete them ontime or spend an extra year in school. Either way, the foreign experience will be worth it.
3 :
Rotary is a good option, but you have to be accepted for the program after the application and interview process. Also, you are assigned a country; you don't get to choose. If your daughter decides to try this route, make sure she's up on current events, both national and international.
4 :
Rotary is definitely an option. If your daughter wants to attend an international school, there are plenty to choose from in the Tokyo area. All courses are taught in English since these schools are mainly set up for expatriates' children. One of more popular and bigger ones in Tokyo is the American School in Japan. www.asij.ac.jp

What are the dimensions of the Sumo Hall in Japan? Could you name a good scale to work with

What are the dimensions of the Sumo Hall in Japan? Could you name a good scale to work with?
I'm making a scale model of the Sumo Hall in Japan for a school project, and need to know what the dimensions (width, height, legnth, etc.) are. Also, what would be a good scale to use to fit it in a 12"x12" box?

A dohyo is 5.40m x 5.40m http://www.sumoforum.net/glossary.html#D just under 18 feet on a side. Allowing the same space for audience all the way around would make a mimimum of 56 feet on a side. Cheating a bit, if the sides of the box are to be the walls of the room, then making it 48 feet on a side would allow 1:48 scale. If your plan was to make it lift out of the box to show the outside, then 1:87 or HO scale might be a good choice. I was a military police officer stationed in Japan, which meant I was also at their hospitals very frequently in regards to incidents such as traffic accidents. I was not at all impressed with the Japanese health care system. Their hospitals were DIRTY, people were crammed several to a room with no privacy, people were smoking in the hallways while dragging their IV drip behind them, and the japanese do not use anesthetic for things that I would feel they should - such as stitches, setting a broken bone...(At the dentist they didn't use it for fillings....)it really was like going back 60 years in time over there. I vowed to myself I never wanted to end up in the Japanese health care system. BUT - on the flip side - I LOVED the country, I loved the people, I loved the culture, I loved it there. It was a WONDERFUL place to go and one of the best experiences of my life.

What would happen to a Korean girl when she goes to Japan

What would happen to a Korean girl when she goes to Japan?
Because I have a friend who's Korean and she's going to Japan on a school trip in September (she's 15).. She's so.. Nervous? Because apparently Japanese HATE Koreans (or so I've heard) And she's been asking me so much its a little annoying I think its because of that little island that Japan and Korea's fighting over for and the historic stuff about how Japan took over Korea and raped the women and killed lots of people

i don't think there's anything she needs to be particularly worried about. Japanese people do not generally hate koreans, that's not true. As long as she's being polite etc, i think she'd have a good time there!
2 :
Well, Japanese don't hate Koreans, it's the other way around, Koreans hate Japanese. Also Koreans are extremely racist. This makes them believe crazy things like the Japanese are inherently evil and want to rape and kill all the Koreans, not unlike how NAZI believed stories about Jews with magical powers that stole and ate children. I'm just talking about actual Koreans, not Americans.
3 :
No one would even look twice at her.
4 :
There's nothing to worry about. I'm Korean and I frequently go to Japan. People might not really notice that she's Korean. Koreans are spread out in many places in Japan. And just like what the person above me said, Japanese don't hate Koreans as much as Koreans do. Even though I personally had a bad experience with some of them. This is the time to get over the past, forgive and forget.
5 :
You and the friend please worry about anything. The stupid leader at the time of the war was judged. The Japanese of the times of now accepts a non-humanitarian act by a cursed stupid leader at the time of the war. And to be a national level is the same human being except a country and culture and the difference of the leader. It says to have a preconception in the news and some critical opinions, and it is not a thing. I think that you cannot understand at the point in time of now, but my acquaintance comes to like Japan in a trip of one week, and he continue just living, and it is it in the tenth year. Please come to Japan by all means and want you to know a true Japanese citizen.

Ha ha, Koreans often assume that others think the same way as they do, and get paranoid, you know. Well, Japanese don't like or hate Koreans; actually, they're indifferent to the people. So, I don't think anything would happen if your friend behaved herself.
7 :
ha ha it's some funny question I guess you are like young!! japanese don't hate korean also they can't distinguish the girl whether korean or Chinese or japanese!! their appearance are similar don't worry anything. haha
8 :
It is wrong that not all Japanese hate Korean. The proof is myself who never hate Korean. Some of Japanese hate you, but most of us Japanese don't hate you Korean. I hate the people who hate someone because he is Korean. But now the group called Zaitoku kai[在特会] may be dangerous. Some of them have injured some Korean whose ancester came from Korea before. And some Japanese site and book are with discrimination for Korean. They are not much, If your friend come to Japan, I hope she doesn't feel sad because of them. And that I wrote under is my favor. If you have convenient time, please see it. Japan merged Korea and ruled Korea. It is truth. Korean government was forced to give diplomatic authority to Japan, and was not allowed to have military. Japan developed Korean infrastructure by their money, but many Korean started demonstration to pay money as Japan had spent. Now some Japanese say "Japan developed Korean infrastructure. But why do now many Korean hate Japan?" Thinking about their demonstration, many Korean in past never admited to ovey Japan. So if some Korean hate Japan, I think it natural. But read, please. Japan and Korea had an agreement in 1965 that Japan should pay so much money to Korea instead Japan must not apologize for merging Korea and crimes. I think many Korean don't know it because it is written that the agreement has been shown from 2005 in Korea in Wikipedia of Japan. A Korean with not knowing the agreement hate Japan because he thinks Japan never do anything as apologize. I think it is natural for him to hate Japan. Why there are some Japanese who dislike Korean is because they don't know the agreement was secret by recent days. But if the Korean who knows it increase, and the Japanese who knows the agreement was secret increase, I think Japan and Korea will have a good term more. So if you have a time that you don't have anything to do, could you please tell her that many Japanese never hate Korean and there is an agreement that reconcliation between Japan and Korea ?

Do teachers in Japan hit students

Do teachers in Japan hit students?
I was just wondering if teachers in Japan hit their students, or punish them badly. If anyone has been to a school in Japan, please tell me what you have viewed.

1 :
yes, seriously as an former exchange student aid, I have witnessed many accounts in my views as a personal punsihment. When I do something bad in Hong Kong, teachers wouldn't hit me or punish me they will look at me and smile and say "i fogive you" This is because im an American, and they think of American as money payee's. Seriously, hiting a kid is hard, but it makes them more displin as often as an average American kid would come in a package. They do it, rare occasions its not against the law or anything, the parents sign the forum displin my kids, they check yes. Its gets them out of trouble.
2 :
No they don't hit students that china
3 :
i dont think so
4 :
My friend, who teaches there, says no.
5 :
No. The most common punishment I've seen is having the student stand outside the classroom holding two pails of water. Which I think would suck more than getting two whacks on the bum. I think they have different techniques to deal with rowdy students, but hitting is not a common one that I hear about. I hear China and the Koreas still hit students with paddles and whatnot.
6 :
I am quite suret that it is not true now, but it was that way a long time ago. If it happens now, those would be a few isolated cases, and the teacher could get in trouble for it.
7 :
i think yes, in malaysia we even have public caning. i saw a teacher pulled a student(a girl) hair and drag her out... he's nuts, and the girl did nothing wrong. when i was in form 1 a teacher slap a student then he apologised the next day. do u think teacher have the right to hit students??
8 :
when i was young, i got hit almost everyday. got slapped in the face, hit with a ruler, chalk thrown at and also pinched in the chest. but it is rare now.
9 :
The simple answer is no. I've been teaching here for 4 years and I can say in any public institution kids are under no circumstances harmed in any way. Parent involvement in schools in also very high making it scary for teachers to do anything that might cost them their jobs.
10 :
There's always someone who just looses it, but such people exist everywhere in this world. If such thing happens, it becomes news, and the teacher's license is temporarily or permanently suspended. Also, the teacher usually pays huge amount to the family of the student he has hit, if they press charges against him. Generally, no, they don't hit students. Some teachers are caught molesting children, but I couldn't find anything in English http://www.nikkansports.com/general/f-gn-tp0-20070116-142980.html This article is in Japanese , but it says that a middle school teacher has had sexual relationship with 4 of his students, last year form May to October.
11 :
Yes and very hard !!!
12 :
Giving students corporal punishment by teachers are forbidding in Japan, but in reality some of them hit as discipline of children. If students and their parents report to the board of education, the teachers are imposed on some sort of punishment. I was used to be hit because of my mischievous behaviour. My parents paid no attention to my complaints. In my generation, majority of the parents would have anticipate their children to learn good manners as well as scholastic achievements. So, like my parents, some parents were not hesistate even if their dear children got a good beating from the teachers for the sake of becoming better person. But times have changed. Owing to recent glowing presses for terrible physical punishments, teachers are exposed to the manaces of the disciplinary acion. Students rarely get punched in the face.
13 :
no they don't hit students
14 :
I think no in some school. Well I have a friend from Japan, she's on high school and she said no, my school didn't did it. I think it depends from what school. Maybe some of the school did that, such as in China.
15 :
most teachers in any countries in Asia hit students, very hard. I seen once, after the teacher hit the student they said they want them to be good and they also think that they've done the right thing
16 :
I'm going to school in Japan right now. The teachers will tap the kids on the top of the head, but it's just as a joke. The students will bump into the teachers on purpose in the classroom, etc. It's only ever as a joke that either "hits" the other, and it's never hard enough to hurt.
17 :
Yes. In some cases blood is drawn. Some of my students have horror stories from their time in High school especially. I guess no one ever thought of suing.

Army Reserve (and all others) bases are in the U.S. None are overseas.
3 :
Along with the regular active-duty 9th TSC soldiers in Japan, the Army Reserve has about 15 Active Guard and Reserve, or AGR, soldiers at Camp Zama, making up the core of an advance party element for mobilizations called the "early entry module."
4 :
nope
5 :
No such animal. However there are Reserve Forces in Japan. When I was in Germany in the 70's there was a US Navy Reserve unit in Frankfurt, they are also Army Reserves there too.
6 :
there are no Reserve units Overseas. you might be allowed to do your 2 weeks AT OCONUS( had lots of Doctors, Nurses and HMs do so in Yokosuka while we lived there) but NOT your monthly drill. the High schools will have JROTC.. there are no ROTC units as there are no full college campuses on board. only satellite ones that offer a very limited curriculum.

...bread is yummy. they make bread bread. the kind you eat.
2 :
School lunch menu is different by neighborhood. There is no unified menu or bread for school lunches in the entire Japan.
3 :
Occasionally they have simple soft bread rolls, usually the type they call butter rolls. Mostly they have flavoured bread or buns, chocolate chip pan (that's the Japanese word for bread, from the French word pain,) is probably the most popular with our kids, there's also sesame pan, bread made using very dark sugar which has a strong flavour, milk pan, cinnamon, maple flavoured, raisin pan, tomato and basil pan, pineapple pan, raisin pan, melon pan, sometimes they even have naan, although it's unlikely to be anything like the real thing.
4 :
Well, it's called 'bread'. I know that is weird, but they still call it bread. Well, actually the Japanese word is 'pan', but means the same thing. See, they have different words for things here, but I digress. I haven't ever heard either of my daughters extolling the wonderful taste of the 'bread'. BTW, are you related to George W. Bush? Your English skills are very similar. "Is our children learning?" Comedians lost a vast resource of material when he left office. But we still have you. Thanks for the laugh.

hey i found somewhere from net that girls in japan in high school wear skirt above 8 to 12 cm knee and plated skirt....is it that type of uniform can u see in japan ?.........or in MBA /engineering girls also wear skirt above 10 to 12 cm to knee is it?

Yes, some girls do that, it is Truly school uniform but student can choose/change its size for themselves off course. Then young girls make effort to somehow attract opposite sex. Although there is a school rules in each school. Some school are not strict but others. I know schools which measure their student's length of skirt for not allowing remodeled uniform. Schools themselves embarrasses for doing that though because it is seen just as a reflection of its school value. So we see student in those irregular fashion as SUCH student. Only SUCH guys are attracted. (There can be a rare exception though.) At the same time, long skirt uniform end up in same result. It is just a story of down of moral standard. Most of elderly don't take it as good. Then it is not suitable for business as long as she is efficient.
2 :
It depends on the school attire code. Some have ,some not. If you were a script writer in japan, it'd be easiest way to express your young actress is a hi' school student to put her in those uniforms.

By studying abroad, I'm guessing you mean as a transfer student. I dont think so, well it depends on your school, but I'm in highschool and our transfer students are all seniors because they still have to get their education in their home country and pass a bunch of English speaking classes before they can come here, but its towards the middle/end of the year when they transfer when all their school work is done and they are ready for college next year. We have transfer students from Japan and Turkey, which is pretty cool. I'm friends with the girl from Japan, besides the accent, she speaks English fluently which must have been a challenge since she was born and raised in Japan. If you're really looking to transfer to Japan, I suggest seeing if theres any outside of school organizations that let young kids do things like that and taking a bunch of Japanese classes. =)

Depends Maybe. I am in High School And all the students are seniors.(Transfered students) Good LucK! -KyLe<33

No!
2 :
Full nudity in public and uncensored pornography are strictly illegal. Drinking and smoking are to be allowed after 20 y.o. Carrying firearms without official license is illegal. Driving license will be approved after 18 y.o. Drugs including marijuana even just possession is sort of felony. Sexual relationship with under 18 y.o. is illegal except female over 16 y.o. got married and her spouse. There's no particular special laws. Just use your brain and read commonsense global wide.
3 :
Get onto Subway train by backing onto it.
4 :
Don't talk on your cellphone in the train. Don't eat while standing. Don't expect to start conversations with complete strangers in public. Be prepared to take off your shoes. Be prepared to bow. Try not to open your mouth while laughing (or at least cover yourself with your hand)
5 :
Yes. Try not to talk on the phone when riding a train. Dont read newspapers while on the train(its impossible anyways) Dont eat while walking on the street Dont shake hands, Bow instead. Dont be rude , or ignorant, Dont use sarcastic or rude jokes. Be prepared for nervous , and possibly rude strangers. Your new nickname will be "Gaijin" << get used to it
6 :
Hmm, the rules given by bluemoon are ok, the others are most of it stupid.
7 :
There have already been some good answers, but here are a couple more. When standing on an escalator, stand to the right. The left side is reserved for moving traffic. Be careful before you hand cashiers (like at 7Eleven) money...there is usually a tray you are supposed to set it in. Try not to shout or raise a ruckus--you'd be supposed at how quiet a train or restaurant full of people can be! Research the Good Samaritan laws--they are very very strict. I try to avoid eating and drinking in public. If you are walking leisurely don't be surprised if you get shoved aside by an elderly Japanese person. That is their cultural right and you sholdn't take it personally if you get in their way. Use the word Arigatou (thank you) freely--they will appreciate your kindness, especially if you bow. And I never sit on the trains if there is a feeble or elderly person standing. This one is very important--*do not tip!* Your gratuties are included in your food bills and it is generally considered very demeaning to tip (taxi drivers are the exception, they love tips and those that don't will gently wave your offering away). Have an enjoyable trip--Japan is a lovely country and its people have always made me feel welcome!
8 :
There aren't really any unusual laws in Japan that aren't typical of any other modern country. Obviously things like drunken driving will get you into trouble with the police. Japanese are quite easy going, so even if you break cultural rules, people will not get upset. Entering a house while wearing shoes, is pretty much the only thing that you could do wrong that would cause someone to say something. One other thing is it's VERY rare for Japanese people to show anger and public displays of anger may make people uncomfortable.

Japan requires a bachelors degree in certain disciplines in English teaching. Go to Japan sites and check out to see what schools are hiring. You may be granted a 1 or 3 year teaching visa. You need a passport, but not necessarily know Japanese language. Use the internet, the answers are there.

Google: JET Program You don't need a degree in anything, just speaking a native english speaker. That program answers all your questions. By the way, please visit my website. I run a website that's dedicated to Japanese Pop Culture. This covers anime, manga, games, music, fashion, and more. Please check it out and suggest it to your friends if you like it :) Don't forget to bookmark us and visit us everyday too! http://www.michaeltang.net Thanks~

Check with your local college job boards and online. You should be able to teach English as a second language in Japan. Also check out working for American companies that have schools for the American employees working in Japan. Often military bases in foreign countries are looking for American teachers to teach. Best of luck!

www.jetprogramme.org Teaching English as a second language mostly in Junior high or high schools, but some JETs teach in primary and even adult classes too. You cannot dictate where are you placed, but you can make a request when you apply. If you want to have a say in where you teach, try private language schools or international schools in larger cities. You might find what you are looking for here: www.gaijinpot.com/
