can a english speaking child immigrate to japan and learn japanese for free in a public school

can a english speaking child immigrate to japan and learn japanese for free in a public school?
this question is for a research paper i am doing. i want to know if an english speaking child can go to a public school and learn japanese for free, as part of his/her curriculum? or do they practice total immersion where it is up to the parents and dedication of the child to learn japanese so they can be a productive part of society.

Japanese schools now are teaching more and more English to Japanese children at school. But I would say it is not likely for school to offer Japanese education to English speaking children. As long as the child is a legal resident of Japan, he/she can go to public school and take all the classes, and Japanese IS one of the requirements all the children have to take. But it is not likely for the child to be able to keep up with any of the classes without knowing any Japanese Or it's not like for schools to offer any kind of tutoring or slow down classes for him/her. If the child is young, he/she will pick up Japanese quickly and will be able to keep up with classes eventually with his/her natural ability. But if he/she are a little older and need to learn all the classes fairy soon, then it's parents or the child responsibility to find tutor or private language school to study Japanese on his/her own.

In order to teach English in Japan, you need at least a bachelors degree. Once you graduate college, I suggest looking into to something called the JET program. You can get information on it from any Japanese consulate.

It will also be nessicary to speak quite good Japanese, otherwise you can't let people translate something from JA-EN and EN-JA.

I would like to teach English as a Second Language in Tokyo. I've been searching for a place to earn my ESL certification that is located in Japan. I don't want to take online courses. Any help would be appreciated because I can't seem to find a good website! Specific names of universities, colleges, etc would be good too! Thank you!!

You can take a CELTA course in Tokyo offered through the British council. The CELTA is the most internationally recognized ESL certification and is awarded by Cambridge University. The downside is that it is very expensive 420,000 yen, and it is only offered a couple times a year. http://www.britishcouncil.org/japan-english-teach-course-registration.htm Though, if you have a degree, that is usually all that is required to get a job teaching English in Japan.
