Um I think it's the same?

Of course they do! Many high school students here go to cram school after regular school to have all the facts necessary to pass their college entrance exams forced into their heads. They have to take tests to enter prestigious junior high and high schools that lead up to good universities. If you need a lot of sleep or if you suck at memorizing things, you will have a problem here. I don't think most teachers make life difficult here, it's the other students. They always travel in packs and try to intimidate anyone who is different or a loner. They also hit and kick each other, destroy personal property, and snatch stuff from other students' bags and nothing is done about it. The teachers just try to get through each day and count the days to retirement.

There are well over 5,000 high schools in Japan, so it's a little hard to give you a comprehensive list. I assume you understand Japanese well, since high schools in Japan teach in Japanese. In that case, you can google with the word 高等学校 + name of the city/prefecture of your choice. You also need someone in Japan who can act as your guardian.

Here's a list of international schools because it's the only option for you: http://www.realestate-tokyo.com/info/school/ http://www.tokyowithkids.com/fyi/international_schools.html#tokyo_preschool2 http://www.weekender.co.jp/new/education/intl-schools-K-12.html They all cost about 1,500,000 yen to 2,200,000 yen (16,000 dollars to 23,000 dollars) per year and usually have an April to April academic year, which might be out to sync with your school. Plus you've got to feed and accommodate yourself for a year with someone that can be legally called a guardian.

What are some after school jobs for a 16 year old in Tokyo, Japan

What are some after school jobs for a 16 year old in Tokyo, Japan?
With a decent wage, enough to pay high school tuition. Its for a writing essay. Thank you. I've chosen a shop assistant/clerk at a florist shop, knowing that the part time wages are between 600Y to 973Y. Its safe to say that even on a 650Y wage, that it should be okay. I want to make it unconventional, thinking outside the box is always fun :)

Private high school tuition is so high that you can't pay it by doing normal jobs for 16 year olds. The only job could be showbiz or something. It's possible to pay public high school tuition which is about $1500 per year. But many schools are not allowing its students to work. Usually, they work at hamburger shops like McDonands or convenience stores like Seven Eleven.

Yeah, as long as your character is going to a public school. A private school, no. But I don't know of any high school students working to pay their way through high school, so the story may be a bit unrealistic.

school trips in Japan

school trips in Japan?
If the equivalent of 7th graders go on camping trips and 8th graders go on beach trips, do 10th graders (koukou first year, i think) go on any end of year trips AND/OR field trips?

Yes, they do. But it's not like 7th graders go to camping trips or 8th graders on beach. It depends on each school where to go, not depends on grade.

Annual official field trip is very popular in Japanese schools. Junior High 1st grade to 3rd grade there may go camping at beach or forest, social study tour for different cities(Kyoto or Nara or Tokyo etc.)/country(Korea or China etc.) and TDL maybe. It depends. It is not scheduled at the end of school year but usually in half-way of them. Some of them are day trip but mostly are two to three or more days group trip generally.

Yeah, they do go on school trips in the 10th grade. It depends on the school as to where they go; one school I visited, they went on a 2-day camping trip near the beginning of the school year (as sort of a bonding exercise). At a different school, they went on a day trip to a nearby water park in the summer.
