How is it like in a Japanese high school

How is it like in a Japanese high school?
I'm just wondering how the high school kids act like in Japan. Like here in America most high schools have some type of stereotypes. If you go/have gone to a high school in Japan, how was it? were people friendly? please say any negative or postive things about it. And things the students have to do like the students have to clean up classrooms and bow when they see their teachers, what else? Just curious^^ thanks anything about Japan high school :]

We had to wear stupid ass uniforms for p.e. and do this stupid ass excercise shit when we were late.

In Japan when the kids clean up the classrooms, keep in mind the mentality of the culture, of patriarchy, and how boys feel like they don't have to help when it's time to clean, making it an often one-sided affair. Of course there are stereotypes too and different kinds of kids. There are the very straight-laced kids (majime) who are very studious and obey the rules, there are the rebels who cut class and don't study, or maybe they manipulate their uniform to be a shorter skirt or line their jacket with another material, or maybe push the limits of allowed hairstyles, sniff glue or what have you, etc. Bullies are a worldwide problem and Japan is no different. There's one thing Japanese (especially guys) do to each other that can be cruel and may seem strange to outsiders.. it's called kancho and you put your hands together like you're going to wish for something, but your index fingers point out and touch each other, then you go up behind your victim and shove it where the sun don't shine and yell "kancho!". My cousin had to go to a doctor after his classmates did this to him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kancho

Income for a normal English High School teacher in Japan.

Income for a normal English High School teacher in Japan.?
I'm getting to that point in my life where I'm going to have start thinking about a career option. How ever I'm unsure, I picked this because I have been speaking English all my life and learned Japanese at a young age. But i'm unsure if this would be an ideal position to support a family. I here my teachers complaining that there under paid for someone who has gone to College for an X amount of years but I'm not sure if that's the case in Japan. I'm receiving free college so if I'm going to do this I might as well shoot for a masters degree, and I'd preferably like to teach in the Osaka region.

For an English ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) on the JET Programme, you receive 300,000 yen a month. The average income for private English teachers is between 250,000 and 350,000. As an entry level Japanese teacher (assuming you have passed your teaching license in Japan) the pay generally begins at about 220,000 yen a month but you also get a bonus at the end of the year. As you move up in your position, your pay will also increase. As I said earlier, you will have to pass the Teacher's License Test in Japan, so I hope that your Japanese is very good. My best friend, a junior high school teacher (on temp work) has failed it five times already, on the Japanese sections (she aces her English sections). I do wish you the best of luck, and drop me an e-mail if you have anymore questions.

High school is NOT free in Japan yet Japanese are smarter than Americans. Should 0bama abolish free city

High school is NOT free in Japan yet Japanese are smarter than Americans. Should 0bama abolish free city?
... schools since 1/2 of the kids drop out anyway? School beyond 9th grade is optional yet the Japanese seem to work hard and be smart.

Okay first off: the Japanese are not smarter than Americans. Both are the same in intelligence. They care about grades more and work harder than most Americans. And no I don't think he should. As I said, a lot Americans don't care about grades. So even less people would go to school. Parents make their kids now. But if they had to pay money AND their kids don't want to go... Not alot of people would stay in school.
2 :
I'm sure you meant to say "smarter than United Statesians"
3 :
The Japanese Democrats who have just defeated the Conservatives want to make high school free. One of the reasons Japanese voters have ousted the Conservatives is that the economy has been stagnating for so many years.
4 :
the japanese are a homogeneous society...they have not been spoon-fed the idea that they "MUST" have higher education...their educated do not look down upon their so-called un-educated...you do not have to have an education in this country either to be a success...liberals just use thier education to feel superior to those who arent as educated... we are a vain country...

How to make it through school as a Japan obsessed Otaku?(loves anime & manga)+(read description)

How to make it through school as a Japan obsessed Otaku?(loves anime & manga)+(read description)?
~ I didn't know whether to put this in the comics section or the psychology section so I did eenie minee mo and here it is xD ~ Um, I've been in love with manga and anime since I was in kindergarten, starting with Sailor Moon and Pokemon (hahaha) - and obsessed with Japan and Japanese culture. For some reason though, now, in 7th grade, people are starting to make fun of me. I'm not TO much of a push over.. Well.. Okay maybe.. Well what I mean is i'm not one of those tiny scrawny kids that gets bullied 24/7, their lunch money stole from them, etc. (No offence to those that are.) But yeah, this whole year in seventh grade some people have been.. Sort of teasing me.. And I just want to know what other fellow otaku do to make it through that kind of stuff.. Like, the other day, some of the "popular" girls in my first period were hovering over my desk while I was writing to my other otaku friend (yes I have two friends that are my best friends, they both like it too.) and the girls were all like, "Dude, Whats sew sah noh? (susanoo) Suu Kuu yoh meh (tsukuyomi)?? Oh my gawd what a geek.. (insert girly laugh here)" and I didn't say anything except shove the note into my book and blush like mad T__T And when I carry a manga book around and notebooks with japanese written all over them people are like "Why do you like that stuff, its so gay.. Do u speak japanese.. Ching chong ching..(insert stupid laugh here)" so yeah.. I just usually get really embarressed... But I want to be able to be like "SHUT THE HELL UP FOOL! xD IT OWNSS U ALL" sort of thing.. I think like that in my mind but I can never say it aloud T__T so yeah I just want to learn how to speak my mind.. please ideas? P.S. someone has already told me, "just stop liking it and people won't think ur all nerdy anymore", so NO, I will not stop liking what I like because of other people, so don't mention that. haha, yeah, I'm sorry, I didn't really need an epic novel but I DO like ranting xD and lol at the "I'm a whore" hahaha I try to keep it quiet!! Thats why it's pissing me off so bad! I try to hide everything, walking while covering the titles on my books.. not showing anyone my drawings.. etc.. but still people are so nosy to make fun of it T_T LOL TAYLER I love your answers that means you stupid b@stard, right?

Keep it between friends. No need to let EVERYONE know that you are an otaku (Japanese people actually frown upon it as well amongst themselves....). Personally, I would learn japanese, and when asked, you can reply,"Why yes I do. I'm glad that I have some skills that will give me an advatage in finding a college and career."
2 :
I was like that in the 6th grade, then I realized how much of a nerd I am. I held back on my crazed sensation and got into other activites, along the way I met some friends who I introduced into the Japanese culture. We do love anime and manga but I don't go around talking in Japanese because no one would really understand. I kept it quiet and if anyone asked I'd tell them all about it. At home I would be the crazy anime otaku I normally am and be myself online. I recently just got a little distant from it but I bought some new manga today. I hope to get back into the manga fever.

Just keep moving. Middle School is Short, with short-sighted pricks who don't have any hobbies besides picking on other people. Just wait till High School, and those short-sighted pricks find themselves club-less and your sitting in the anime club / Japanese Club / whatever they call at your soon to be high school. In the very least, put some slightly obscene Japanese phrases on your notebook and be very helpful, and cheery to the girls that make fun, teach them to say, "I'm a whore" but tell it means Good afternoon.
4 :
Wow, you should punch them in the weiner. There was REALLY no need to type that whole epic novel haha xD you could've putted that they tease you ex 1, or ex 2 haha. But that sucks, in my school they think it's pretty cool. Well, I'm anime obsessed like I usually spend my money on anime plushes and stuff D: (broke) But you should ignore them, just say something smart to them and smile. I think fighting is horrible and shouldn't be fought over small things that can get worst over the future. Just smile and laugh, think of your life amazing and pure. I wouldn't be left happy knowing I' picking and commenting on someone else's life, how boring.
5 :
I'd just ignore them. They sound like idiots to me. I've been an otaku my whole life and I'm in 11th grade now. Back in middle school people did make smarmy comments and stuff, but now that I'm in high school there are A LOT of other otaku that I didn't even knew existed (haha, I felt like the only one too). Seriously though, they're just jealous because they probably don't even know how to read simple English... And if they say stuff like that is gay then you should just tell them that they are immature that they can't accept other people's cultures or languages. Then ask them if they're racist... That usually gets 'em. But I guess I avoided being ostracized mainly because I've always been the sarcastic, intimidating, rude type of girl... So when people WOULD ask me stupid questions or make comments I'd just shoot them a glare and then smirk and say something witty and they'd back off. I hope you can get those a-holes to stop messing with you though. Good luck!! ^3^
6 :
OMG I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE THAT LAUGH!! People do that to me too and it pisses me off. I'm not a *super* otaku, but everyone gives me weird looks and makes the "ching chong" jokes. It really angers me. When they make fun of me I usually just brush it off. Remeber: Highschool (and middle school) are such little things in your life you shouldn't let stupid people ruin it for you. Really the best thing to do is brush it off, but if you get too angry or something go with "Just because your head is too full of air to realize what good culture is. Go drink some gasoline" or maybe "We'll see who's laughing when I'm a wealthy interpreter and you're pumping my gas while trying to clean up the mistake that is your life." That kind of thing is mean though so only reserve it for extreme cases! And don't even respond to people that have messed up lives that are doing it b/c they just have insecurities and that kind of thing makes them feel better.

lol. i wuz in a similar situation as you. but no one really made a big deal about it back then. i mean yea, i was considered lame, but no one picked on me either. you can let people know you like that stuff, but you have to have a certain kind of SWAG(the way you carry yourself) about yourself to keep people off your back. you have to be in a good social situation for it be acceptable really. I stay in Georgia. I hate to say it, but you may have to just stop bringing all your manga stuff to school and just chill out with everything for a minute while in school so people will leave you alone. then just slowly recreate your image. When i was in high school, i had a squad of friends. lol, ironically, most of them were in gangs or hung out with people in gangs. But all of them knew i was down wit anime and such things. but they knew i was in to other stuff too. Just let them know that anime isn't the only thing you're in to..... also, you shouldn't say too much back to people like that unless you're willing to fight or you think they are scared to fight you. you may never know when someone may snap and swing on you. but if you are willing to fight, just tell'em to stop hovering over you like they wanna kiss. and make sure you have a disgusted look on your face and walk off like you're pissed.

i feel your pain when i was in 6th grade, i had a little trouble with that too... try not to use Japanese as much at school, and if people are looking at what you're doing, just kinda ignore what they're doing and keep drawing/reading/whatever. keep your MAJOR otaku stuff for home or with your friends. one thing you might want to do if someone says something like "do you speak japanese?" is to start talking to them in fake (or real) japanese, just to freak them out a bit!! (it really works) when those girls are commenting on your writing or whatever mutter something in japanese under your breath or look up at them and sort of laugh, that'll irk them a bit i hope some of this helps!! life'll get easier once middle school's over, trust me!!
9 :
you just have to learn to ignore the stupid comments. don't be ashamed of your otakuness though! confidence throws people off. when they start making fun of you just say something in japanese to them or put a manga in front of your face and just ignore them...they won't know what the heck to do. ^_^

The first thing I want to comment on is that you should be well rounded. If anime is just a hobby, then embrace it and just be yourself. However, if the only thing you watch is anime; the only thing you read is manga; and the only thing you listen to is J-pop- then you are being a bit obsessive, and the fact is, you can easily tease anyone who is being obsessive about ANYTHING. Now, I want to ask you, WHY do you act embarassed, hide your stuff, and run off when they tease you? You are only validating their actions in their eyes. Seriously, just stand firm for what you believe in. You like anime, you shouldn't feel embarassed for doing so- instead EMBRACE it. The popular girls come up to you and start reading your stuff? Just stay cool and chuckle whenever they mispronounce something, answer their questions honestly and politely (even if the question is insulting), and then go on with whatever it is you are doing. Someone calls you a nerd? Give them a confused look and a simple, "Yes...?" or "So...?" If you like anime and manga you ARE a nerd. But guess what? Millions of people where that term proudly. Hell, I'll tell you a little secret: I much prefer a nerdy girl then some "popular girl" who gets pass out drunk every weekend. Nerds are hot. And guess what? I'm not alone in that view. Someone asks you, "Why do you like that stuff, its so gay?" Once again just give a simple honest answer like, "Because I find it entertaining." And give them a look on your face that implies a "duh." The only reason these people are teasing you is because you are reacting to it. You blush and hide when they say those things. DON'T DO THAT. You like anime and manga, don't be embarrassed. Be yourself, and just don't let them get to you. If you do that, they should for the most part leave you alone, or in some cases even respect you.

Well, its difficult to give you my advice since I was raised in a Catholic middle school. I liked Pokemon at that time, watched Yugioh, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball. I was quite afraid to be embarressed if anyone found out that I love that stuff to death. I later found out two other classmates that draw and read manga. I didn't talk to them since they were different, and they were sorta like from a different world. Well, what I do is just hide my manga. No one really cared now that I think about it. My sister got lectured by a teacher for having explicit manga and told my dad about it. Crazy... Both my sister and I didn't have any teasing. But if someone did, I just glare at them and be silent. Nothing much else to do about it, and its not like I want to start an arguement either. It might mean trouble if I start something stupid, and it ends terribly. And for your high school question, you should more or less worry. There are all kinds of people, not just from your middle school. I'm sure the high school that you are going to might have people from different places with different views. You might have lots of friends who might be into anime, manga and the Japanese culture like you do and your friends as well. Don't let the teasing get you down. If you get embarress and blush, just endure it. You love being an otaku, right? Just take it all in. Be brave and perservere. You see, no one really cares. They just either like to start things and it ends badly for them. You just have to not get involved into those kinds of things. High school is just another phase for most kids. You see people in huge crowds of friends, gangs, emo crew, Asian, Latino, African American, etc... There might be a group of anime and manga fans that you'd be willing to join. All in all, you should look forward to high school. Be prepared for both the good and bad things. I'm a total stranger, but I support you all the way.

who cares if people know? its who you are and if they dont like it then they can shove a knife up their butt. and honestly if i was you i would go up to those "popular girls" next time the make fun of u for writing to ur frends and tell them that at least you have real friends. god i just wanna strangle people like them. why the eff does it even matter to them? it doesnt. so just tell em to fuck off and that manga and anime is a hell of a lot better than girly magazines and soap operas. MANGA WHORES ROCK!
