I know a lot about Japan. I love it. School in Japan is way strict. Their summer breaks are shorter and they get homework during summers(a lot) School is a bit longer, and they have lots of festivals. There isn't much of a difference for girls then there is for boys. In Japan teachers are much more...involved with their students, their better teachers then the ones we have here in America by far. When the students are at school and outside of school the teachers are like their parents/guardians. Theres a lot of respect going on too. It would be trouble if you forgot to say "Teachers name-sensei" The kids there are also a lot more responsible too. In middle school they usually were sailor suit type uniforms with a skirt, short or long(for the girls). The Japanese students are VERY smart and study a lot! I'm not saying every single one of them are perfect students, there are a lot of delinquent type students and sometimes even school gangs. I think their schools are different in a lot of things but the same as our schools in things as well.

Japanese people have told me that school is mainly a formality and a place where you mostly take tests and that cram school is where you learn the most. It's also very competitive because you are required to take tests to get into certain schools even elementary and middle school levels require tests if you want to get into that school, generally. and No japanese aren't particularly smarter they just have to go through more rigorous trails than most schools outside of asia because of the competition to get accepted into the school of your choice. In addition to school and cram school students will often have at least one club that they participate it. The only difference between boys and girls in japanese schools that come to mind is if you go to a school that requires uniform (most do) you may be required to wear a skirt if your a girl. *also the remark that Japanese teachers are often more involved with their student is also mostly inaccurate. Japanese students usually rely on cram school and tutors for clarity and there has been a problem with teachers turning a blind eye when it comes to obvious bullying. (bullying does not happen all the time but it has been a constant issue, particularly intense bullying).* Also for each subject you will usually get a new teacher and the teachers normally come to your classroom. It is the students job to take care of the classroom and make it clean. Students usually have classroom chores that they rotate
