Navy -- Getting married after 'A' school and fiance wants to move to Japan will I be able to go with him???
My fiance is in bootcamp right now for the Navy. and he will be going to A school right after. He is a Machinist Mate (MM). He wants to pick Japan for his first choice. We are planning to get married after he gets out of A school during the time he gets off before he goes to the next duty station (14-21 days). Assuming that he gets stationed in Japan and we get married during his vacation time... will I be able to move there with him?? Or since we are getting married after he is done with A school, will the papers not show our marriage yet???

Yes, just make sure you talk to the department of housing. Don't slack on this, you two may get screwed over. But you will be living in an American base, so you'll have to go pretty far away for authentic japanese crap. You'll need a pasport too. Good luck :D

It might take a few months for the paperwork to go through the system, but, as a spouse, you will eventually be able to move there with him.

He will have to file a copy of the marriage license with his command and request PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders as a MARRIED servicemember. Japan - hope you're REALLY prepared for that! Living there was like being a rat in a cage - you just can't DO a lot of the things we take for granted here in the states, and everything is "on base", which means you're looking at military people ALLLLLL DAY EVERY DAY. It gets old, FAST. :s

im an air force wife stationed in japan...a friend of ours did that same thing, she was able to come but it took 2 months after he came to get everything arranged, his orders will come down when he is still in training......so he will have to get you command sponsorship and get his orders amended to an accompanied tour ...and a bunch of other stuff before you can go.......but you will get to join him eventually.

No you will not be Iincluded in his orders t that time, you will have to get married before he finishes, so that way he can get accompnaied orders to Japan, if you do not do that, then you face a bunch of problems, including having to pay to move yourself. Plus he will have to live in the barracks, and will not get housing, until all of the paperwork has been run.

It is up to the command what they will do to help you. You need to get married while he is in a-school. Or somehow right after he graduates. You won't be on his orders. But some places ask you if you intend to get married on route to your next command. So they can prepare housing and paper work for you. You just might have to pay your own way. The best thing to do is have him ask while he is in A-school. So you know what is going on.

That's a big move and takes some time to prepare. He'll get his official orders while he's in school and you won't be on them unless you're married already. So it could take some time to get you out there. However, there are things you can do now to make things go faster. Like get your passport in order. And make sure he finds out exactly what paperwork you'll need and where to file it so that everything gets processed as fast as it can. Another option is to have a civil ceremony so you're officially married between boot camp and A school and then have a full ceremony after A school. Just so you know that could be an option.

You will have to wait until he finds housing either in the Japanese community (most recommended!) or on base (when one becomes available). My wife came over to Japan 2 1/2 months after I got there and we lived in a nice little Japanese house for 6 months. We finally got an opening on base and within 2 weeks we were wishing we had stayed in our Japanese house. We still went back to visit our old neighbors and had them over to our house many times. My last year in Japan, our social life was mostly with our Japanese friends. My son's first set of orders out of SK A school was to Japan, the USS McClusky FFG-41 and he was single, but loved being stationed in Japan. I hope your bf gets the orders he wants. What was funny, my son was upset because he didn't get the orders he wanted...Norfolk. But once he got to Japan, he didn't want to be transferred back stateside! He needs to file his wedding certificate IMMEDIATELY upon reporting to his first duty station(have him check with the personnel office at the A school for any updates on this info...it may be too old). That will speed things up getting you over, if he does go overseas. You still have to get a passport in your MARRIED name and the Navy will have to arrange what's called a PORT OF CALL(I think that's the term...been so long...over 30 years) for bringing you over.
